The Awards Story
The 1982 Charles S. Roberts Awards were presented at Origins '83 in Cobo Hall
in downtown Detroit, Michigan on July 14-17, 1983. The local economy was
terrible and Exhibitor Room sales were very disappointing.

The big news from 1982 was the "fall" of SPI and its acquisition by
TSR, Inc. Avalon Hill created Victory Games during this year with some of SPI's
New York talent.
Also in this year, the first professional Japanese wargame magazine, Tactics,
was launched by Koichi Satoh, founder of Hobby Japan. Ironically, the last issue
(#60) of the first series of MOVES magazine was also published in 1982.
