“The best way to learn games is to play games. The best way to make games is to work.” – Alan Emrich
Weekly Homework:
Read Chapters 15: The Gathering of Clouds, 16: A Thief in the Night, and 17: The Clouds Burst. Be prepared to discuss these in class next week for extra credit and as preparation for the Final Exam.
Final Course Project Game:
Samples: Concept / Treatment Document Samples by various students
Your specific homework for this week is to take your freshly analyzed and “Gamestormed” Story Treatment / Concept Document and, armed with that data, work it over and iterate it into a final version for a major grade (30 points).
You will need to STAPLE TOGETHER and bring class the following packet of materials (in this order) next week:
1. Your final Concept Document / Story Treatment
2. Your notes from the “Gamestorming” meeting in class this week
3. At least two Document Analysis forms (given to you by your classmates)
FYI: Your homework in two weeks will be to commence the final Course Project and prepare your complete first draft copy of your Storyboard (MAA students) of Game Level Design (GAD and VPG students)
Again, in class the week after that, we’ll do an in-class critiquing to improve your project before it is submitted on the final week of the course.
Exam #2 is next week:
Next week there will be the second course exam (40 points) on the terms, concepts, and principles from the material presented in Lessons 5, 6 and 7 on Storytelling, Plots, Stories in Games, and Concept Documents. Be sure to study the Lesson Review Sheets handed out in class and make sure you've read all the Required Reading material found in each week's assignment links on the web site.
