Week 10: Episodic Storytelling; Course Project Critiques

“The best way to learn games is to play games. The best way to make games is to work.” – Alan Emrich

Final Course Project:

Your specific homework for this week is to get the ball rolling on your final course project and create your complete, first draft version of your Game Level Design (that uses the characters you’ve created to reveal a part of the story) or Storyboard and bring it to class next week. Then and there, we will have another mutual exchange critiquing session for your project’s benefit (and some extra credit for good evaluations) that you can use to refine your Course Project before handing it in on Week 11.

Final Course Project Game:

Your specific homework for this week is to take your freshly analyzed and “Gamestormed” Storyboard / Game Level Design document and, armed with that data, work it over and iterate it into a final version for a major grade (40 points).

You will need to STAPLE TOGETHER and bring class the following packet of materials (in this order) next week:

1.     Your final Storyboard pages / Game Level Design document

2.     Your notes from the “Gamestorming” meeting in class this week

3.     At least two Document Analysis forms (given to you by your classmates)

Exam #3 is next week:

Next week there will be the second course exam (30 points) on the terms, concepts, and principles from the material presented throughout the entire course, with some emphasis on The Hobbit. Be sure to look over the Lesson Review Sheets handed out in class and make sure you've read all the Required Reading material found in each week's assignment links on the web site.
