What this course will do:
Get you to think like a game designer, including important ‘reality checks'
Provide essential principles, tips, and strategies for designing almost any type of game
Provide important lessons so that you can practice key game design skills as you learn them
Principles of Game Design is a ‘how to’ course designed to teach you the fundamental philosophies of game design and apply them in a hands-on manner using a step-by-step process that develops your ‘game design muscles.’ The tips, tools, and techniques taught in this course exist to provide the practical resources needed for your game design muse to find its manifest expression. In addition, the information this course provides is a grounded study for any real life application where inspiration must combine with perspiration to create a marketable product of art, craft, and science (all of which apply to making games).
What this course won’t do:
Tell you how to ‘break into the business,’ sell your game design, raise capital, or publish games yourself
Teach you how to program a computer, design ingenious Artificial Intelligence routines, or make art for your game
There are plenty of other books and courses about those subjects, but this is the one course you need as a proper foundation from which to project the knowledge you'll acquire from those sources. Principles of Game Design teaches you important first principles, vital core design philosophies and thought processes, and will help you create a game that is worth all the time and effort to produce. All of the art, programming, and business savvy in the world won’t make a great game design - they can only help to realize a great game design's potential for success. So your first step is to acquire the skills you need to design great games… and this course is where you’ll learn them.
